Your participation in our fundraising efforts is such a blessing to me and to our recipients!

Thanks to your generous response to last year’s appeal, we were able to contribute over $100,000 to three local missions: Action Réfugiés Montréal, The Mile End Community Mission and Tyndale-St Georges Community Centre.

While we’re not holding an event this year, the need for funds persists. This year we are again asking you to help us fulfill our commitment to these three deserving communities:

Action Réfugiés Montréal: We offer justice and compassion to refugeed people, through three main programs. Our detention program provides support to individuals detained for administrative reasons, connecting them to resources and to family. This includes purchasing phone cards to connect with family in other countries, as the government does not otherwise allow detained individuals to make international calls. Our refugee sponsorship program welcomed over 110 people in 2022, including many Afghans as well as Eritreans, Congolese, and refugeed people from other countries. Our social inclusion programs build connections between newcomers and long-term Montreal residents, showing what true community can look like.

The Mile End Community Mission: Last summer, following a long period of lock-downs and worries, we were finally able to re-open our doors to our members for regular programs and services including: our free breakfast and lunches, our weekly foodbank, our wonderful little thrift store, our summer café-terrace, art program and numerous fun activities and outings. To date, we are operating as usual, but as we gear up for colder weather, we are ready to implement any precautions or that may be warranted.

A new season has begun at Tyndale St-Georges Community Centre, bringing with it exciting developments. The After School Program is bustling with 63 enthusiastic participants. The Weekend Program continues to cater to the needs of children and their parents in the community. Additionally, the Early Childhood Department offers essential support to parents with children aged 0 to 5, while the Adult Centre's Pre-Employment Program is at full capacity, with many eager individuals seeking to acquire new skills and rejoin the workforce.

Fall Festivals and Trunk or Treat: Reaching out to Families in the Diocese of Montreal

On Tuesday, October 31st, St. Paul’s Church in Greenfield Park, hosted its first Trunk or Treat event. Almost 1000 trick or treaters and their families stopped by the decorated cars and play games to collect candy! It was an incredible opportunity to interact with many families in the community. Parents were very thankful for the opportunity for the safe place to trick or treat and many of the neighbours were saying that we needed to do it again next year.

On October 27th, Christ Church Beaurepaire hosted a Fall Festival. Here is what they learned: When you reach the parents, you reach the kids! By publicizing our Fall Festival on the local Facebook ‘mom groups’, posters at libraries, coffeeshops, pools and other community areas, we were able to welcome hundreds of families who had a great time enjoying games, free homemade supper, candy prizes, and spending time with their community.
