Pianist/Choir Director St. George’s, Anglican Church, Châteauguay

Who we are:

St. George’s is a small Anglican Church in Châteauguay which has a service

of Holy Communion and Morning Prayer on alternate Sundays. We are a friendly and

flexible community and are looking for a musician to support our worship on Sundays and

special holidays and ideally to also conduct the choir. We sing traditional and

contemporary hymns, communion settings, and other music.

Job Description:

• Play hymns and other music for Sunday Eucharist and Morning Prayer Services, 2-4

Sundays a month. The music is chosen by the Rector and a representative of the

choir.

• Play for Services on Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday.

• The Pianist will be supported by and reports to the Rector and a member of the

corporation.

Requirements:

• Experience playing for a church or choir.

• Fluency in English and good communication skills.

• Ability to work as a part of the music team to support worship.

• Comply with the Anglican Diocesan of Montreal Safe Church Policies, provide

references and obtain a clear police background check.

• High School diploma or equivalent experience.

Other desired abilities:

• Knowledge of the Anglican Musical tradition.

• Conduct the choir which practices monthly and sings anthems for special occasions.

• Ability to play for funerals or weddings.

• Familiarly using a sound system.

Expectations:

• Regular practice to refine one’s skills

Time Commitment:

• Looking for someone to begin in January or February of 2026

• Arrive at 8:30am on Sunday for a service at 9:00am, conclude by 10:30am at the

latest (usually 10 for morning prayer and 10:15 for Eucharist).

• If also conducting choir, Choir Practice on a Saturday morning or other time to be

determined. There is usually one practice a month from September-June with extra

practices close to Christmas and Easter.

• Funerals and Weddings as available.

• 1 hour of practice time per service will be paid.

Equipment:

The pianist will play a digital keyboard (NORD Piano5), which is owned by our landlord church. Hymnals will be provided, and we have an archive of anthems. A small budget is available to purchase new music as needed.

Renumeration and terms of employment:

Competitive hourly rate depending on education and experience.

Three month probationary period.
