• Our Mission Statement 

By God’s grace and in the power of the Holy Spirit we  offer spiritual direction to cultivate mature Christian disciples and intentional faith communities.  We both advocate for this ministry and offer, in a contemplative mode,  individual spiritual direction, communal discernment, workshops and retreats. 

• What is Spiritual Direction? 

Spiritual Direction is an ancient ministry, sometimes called Spiritual Accompanimen or Spiritual Guidance.  It is about meeting with another person to talk about your spiritual life, prayer, and growth in intimacy with God.1* 

•  What can I talk about? 

Spiritual Direction is a listening and accepting space where you can talk about anything that impacts your relationship with God, yourself, and creation.   

• Who is Spiritual Direction For? 

The person offering this ministry has been specifically trained in Spiritual Direction. Spiritual directors may be ordained, lay or religious. In the Diocese of Montreal, Spiritual Directors are are licensed by the Bishop.   

• Where does Spiritual Direction take place? 

People can meet face to face in a quiet space which responds to the Diocesan Safe Church Guidelines. Also, many of our directors offer spiritual direction online. 

• How Often does one receive Spiritual Direction? 

Frequency can vary from every few weeks to twice a year according to the needs of the directee.  A common pattern is to meet every two to six weeks for about an hour. 

• Are there any fees? 

Many directors regard this ministry as a free will offering and do not charge. Others welcome contributions to further the work of Spiritual Direction in the diocese.  Some may suggest payment according to a sliding scale. 

•  How do I find a spiritual director? 

You may ask someone you already know who offers Spiritual Direction. It is not advisable to ask a friend or your parish priest, as this may affect your ability to explore openly and freely. An online list of licensed directors is available from the Anglican Diocese of Montreal.  

The Anglican Spiritual Directors have a ‘matching’ programme. Someone will interview you and suggest a director who might be a good fit. It is important to be comfortable with your director. It’s a good idea to evaluate the relationship from time to time. You may choose at any point to continue meeting or not.

Who are we?

We are a contemplative community, centred in Christ, rooted in the ancient practice of spiritual direction, and committed to the care of souls. We cultivate an oasis of hospitality.

We value being regularly present to one another, to God, to ourselves and others through an intentional time of silent meditation followed by sharing together.  This nurtures our practice of accountability, honesty, compassion, deference to one another, and capacity to wait on God in discernment.  

We attend to what draws us more deeply into life as a community, so that our mission may be carried out in the same spirit.
