Anglican Communion

What is the Anglican Church?

The Worldwide Anglican Communion is a global fellowship of seventy-four million men, women and children from more than one hundred sixty countries. We are held together by a common faith. As a communion, each province is responsible for its own governance. There are several instruments of unity by which and in which we discuss and resolve issues important to the whole worldwide body.

Each province of the church is made up of several Dioceses. A province in the church is not to be confused with a province in the Canadian political system. In the Worldwide Anglican Communion, Canada as a whole is a province called the Anglican Church of Canada.

We are in the Diocese in Montreal. We are organized under our bishop, the Right Reverend Barry B. Clarke, into several administrative subdivisions called archdeaconries. We consist of about 104 churches in 72 parishes from the Laurentians to the United States border, from the Eastern townships to Ontario.
