Montreal Lay Readers Enjoy Study Day

Sixty Diocesan Lay Readers participated in the annual Study Day and Commissioning Service on Saturday, November 19th at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Pointe Claire where keynote speaker, the Rev’d Professor Patricia Kirkpatrick, shared her insights on “Preaching the Good News from the Old Testament.” As well as having their licenses renewed and getting encouragement and enlightenment from the speakers, the lay readers enjoyed the reunion of friends and colleagues and the mutual exchange of experiences of church leadership. And they were delighted to welcome four new lay readers into their community.

The Lay Readers participate in monthly workshops, (www.layreaders.org) open to all who are interested, and an annual retreat, May 5th to 7th, 2017, when the leader will be Pastor Jim Slack of the ELCIC, to teach about the history of the Lutheran Church and its partnership with the Anglican Church.
